WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA) Healthcare Waste Institute and Landfill Institute recently submitted comments to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding its draft guidance, "Best Management Practices for Unused Pharmaceuticals at Health Care Facilities," published in the Federal Register in September 2010.

The Environmental Industry Associations (EIA) Women’s Council membership recently approved awarding three $5,000 scholarships in 2011.

Since 2007, the EIA Women’s Council has provided scholarship dollars to college students, who are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate education relating to a career in the environmental industry.  The program is funded through various Women’s Council projects including the Waste Expo Carts on Parade program and the sale of the bilingual “Where Does My Garbage Go?” coloring book.

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must be employed by a member of either the National Solid Waste Management Association (NSWMA) or the Waste Technology Equipment Association (WASTEC) or a dependent of a member employee. Other selection criteria will include the applicant’s indication of interest in promoting the professional advancement of women in the environmental industry, a record of scholastic achievement and community service, and recommendations by instructors, employers or other personal references.
