WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Environmental Industry Associations (EIA) announced that it had received a record number of nominations for its Driver of the Year awards. This program recognizes and honors waste industry drivers committed to safety and high quality service. Nominations were due in December 2011. Winners of the prestigious awards are announced at the annual EIA Inspirational Breakfast, held during the waste industry’s national trade show, WasteExpo (wasteexpo.com).

For the 2012 Driver of the Year awards, EIA received 644 applications. EIA saw the number of applications increase for both large and small commercial companies, as well as public-sector organizations.

The upcoming awards breakfast will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center on the morning of Tuesday, May 1.

EIA's Director of Safety David Biderman said, "We are pleased to have received this record number of nominations. These nominees represent the excellence that so many drivers in our industry demonstrate on a daily basis. These nominees all have outstanding safety records, commitment to their companies, and great respect for high quality customer service."

EIA is the trade association that represents the American private sector solid waste and recycling industry through its two sub-associations, the National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA) and the Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC). NSWMA represents companies that provide solid, hazardous and medical waste collection, recycling and disposal services, and companies that provide professional and consulting services to the waste services industry. WASTEC represents companies that manufacture, distribute or develop equipment, technology and systems for the safe and environmentally responsible management of waste and recycling.
